FINMA supervises more than 29200 financial institutions and products. The four divisions "Banks and Securities Dealers", "Insurance Companies", "Markets" and "Asset Management" are entrusted with forward-looking, so-called prudential supervision.
In addition, private audit firms carry out supervisory audits on behalf of FINMA. Only institutions that have been granted a license for activities in the financial sector are monitored.
In 2019, the focus was on money laundering prevention, suitability supervision in view of the entry into force of the FIDILEG and market supervision, among other things.
